Went for a fish somewhere new for me this weekend in the hopes of catchimg the big one , Corey and Matt couldn't find a wave so tagged along with the old fella (to learn a thing or two....
Conditions weren't ideal with a screaming south wester trying to ruin the day and the water was still pretty stirred up ........but hey "thats fishin"on the south coast.!! I had the use of Mocdoof's old yellow yak . the to 2 boys were shore bashing....in bare feet and shorts.......crazy boy's while a got the yak in the water Matt tied on the trusty old red SX 40 (my fav for dirty water) and had a few flicks right in front of the parking area and almost immediately hooked up to what he called for an average sized fish ,,,,that was till it broke the surface ......All of a sudden the excitment level rose about ten fold as an absolute monster bream started do its thing as it realized someone was trying to remove it from it's watery home. I paddled up in the yak to see what all the fuss was about and couldn't believe what I was seeing , the thing was hhhuggggee..!!!!!!!!!!!!!....No net, so corey was given the task of getting the thing ashore, which he managed with pro skill according to him I have never seen a bream that size and we were all calling it for a "50". It went very close and was grosely over weight , well over 2 Kg It measured 49 in the end , didn't have scales so cant give an accurate weight and the photo's don't give any idea of the size except the one of it lying on the yak but I can vouch for it, it was a legitimate 49 cm what ever the knockers will say Well donr Matt on the fish of a lifetime.... over the 2 days we only caught one fish under 40cmm (35 cm) I had sennsational time in the yak catching my new PB at 46 cm and several fish at 44 to 45 cm . All in all an absolute cracker of a weekend. Pity the pics don't match the quality of the fish...!!! (and it weren't me takin them |

Yes Streeles, I know the system only too well but would suggest keeping it close to your chest in the interest of the fish as they are nearing their spawn so if you want to have a repeat down the track and a few others that have protected it for this long take the pictures remember the day in awe. Not telling you what to do but finding a precious bit of water and broadcasting it over the air waves could be as bad as leting the pro's in on it your choice hope you make a good one. Great day in a great spot. Cheers Bucktail |

HaHa found out your spot Streetles. A person i work with has a farm that backs on to that spot. Very Shallow, maybe a wading/kayak comp in the future.

Nah, lets have a kill and grill comp. With 30 odd people we could really rip the guts out of that joint, turn it into a regular thing. Halsey -------------------- |

This has started an interesting debate.
Is it wrong to share a different location with people who you know (well organised group, not publicly) who practice catch and release or keep the location all to yourself. If we keep all these locations very tightly to ourselves are we then only pretecting the resource for our own use? Its funny that i first was told about the system for whiting and stumbled upon the big bream. Then someone else told me the ins and outs of it saying that it is a public resource and everybody has the right to have the opportunity to access it within the rules. It used to be professionally netted, did I think that was right,no. Wilson has 60 tonne of Cobbler taken out every year, do I think that's right, no. There's lots of things that are legal that I don't like and I usually speak my mind in voicing those dislikes. I first fished it 20 odd years ago and probably have only fished it 6 times since. No pressure, that's why the people that do go for a look of the beaten path can do well sometimes. Why put it out there in the public domain only to be ripped to bits by someone who doesn't care, it might sound selfish but I try and look after the things I love.

the irony of this whole thing is you have some one who takes guys from perth and everywhere else to catch fish ,who in turn go home and tell all their mates about all the hot spots ,but thats OK................go figure
sorry to all those whom I have upset sharing a bit of a yarn ...... It won't happen again.... Na it's all good.... |

Love the report and pics Streetless!
I would say that Im with Halsey on this one, I think spots like that one should be kept in secrecy, pics are great but I would not like to see this system exposed to fishing pressure that a comp would bring. JMO, Jack |

Being a guide I'm always open for a sledge but in saying that I only fish the major systems and try to educate my clients in the fragility of some of the South Coast waterways. I always hope that after listening to me dribble on for 8 hours about the enviroment and what we can do to sustain our way of life, I believe some of it might even sink in sometimes.
I might be old and grumpy but I do care and I do try to protect what we have here on the South Coast, call me ironic if you will and I'll wear that but I still cringe ever time people push for information when you have deliberately not mentioned the system in your posts to protect it.
